The Right Battery for Your Yale Forklift
Yale electrics are everywhere in distribution work — pallet trucks on the dock, stand-ups in the aisles, sit-down counterbalance at the racks. All of them run standard industrial lead-acid batteries sized to the truck: get the voltage, tray dimensions, and minimum weight right and the brand question disappears.
Because Yale fleets lean toward distribution-center duty — long single shifts, opportunity charging in the break room, batteries that rarely get watered on schedule — the packs we see from Yale trucks usually die of neglect, not age. A rebuilt pack plus a watering program routinely outlasts the “new battery every five years” cycle those fleets fall into.
We stock the common Yale sizes and rebuild to order. Model and serial — or a photo of the data plate — gets you a quote inside 2 hours, delivery in 3–5 business days, and $200–$1,500 back for the old pack.
If your Yale fleet includes both pallet trucks and sit-downs, treat them as two different battery problems: the 24V dock packs need charge discipline and watering routine, while the 36V/48V counterbalance packs mostly need weight-matching done right at replacement. We quote them differently because they fail differently.
Yale Forklift Battery Voltage by Class
| Truck class | Typical Yale models | Typical voltage |
|---|---|---|
| Class III — pallet trucks & walkies | MP-series pallet trucks and comparable walkie models | 24V |
| Class II — stand-up / narrow aisle | Yale reach and order-picker models | 24V or 36V |
| Class I — electric counterbalance | ERC/ERP-series and comparable sit-down models | 36V or 48V |
| High-capacity electric | Larger Yale electric counterbalance models | 80V |
Always confirm on the data plate. The model family narrows the voltage; your truck’s data plate states the exact voltage, minimum battery weight, and compartment size — the plate decides it. Not sure? Send us a photo and we’ll read it for you.

Yale Forklift Battery Questions
What voltage battery does a Yale forklift use?
Yale pallet trucks and walkies typically run 24V; reach trucks and order pickers 24V or 36V; ERC/ERP-class sit-down counterbalance trucks 36V or 48V; the largest electrics 80V. Confirm against the data plate — it lists voltage, minimum weight, and compartment size, and it is always the final word.
Are Yale and Hyster batteries interchangeable?
Often, yes — Yale and Hyster are sister brands and many trucks share compartment specs. But “often” is not “always”: the deciding factor is still the plate on YOUR truck. Match voltage, tray size, weight, and connector and the pack fits regardless of which badge is on the hood.
Why do Yale pallet-jack batteries seem to die so fast?
Dock duty is brutal on 24V packs: partial charges between waves, no watering schedule, and deep discharges at the end of a rush. The battery is usually sulfated, not worn out. A rebuilt pack plus a basic watering-and-charging routine typically doubles the service life the previous pack got.
Can I put a refurbished battery in a leased Yale truck?
Usually — the battery is a consumable, separate from the truck — but check your lease terms for battery-condition clauses first. Our packs carry a 12-month replacement warranty and a load-test report you can show the lessor.
How quickly can you deliver a Yale forklift battery?
Common Yale sizes ship in 3–5 business days with free delivery across Southern California — on-site swap available, old-battery trade-in handled on the same visit.
What is the difference between refurbished and reconditioned for a Yale battery?
Reconditioned generally means cleaned, charged, and tested; refurbished (rebuilt) means weak cells were actually replaced and the pack rebalanced. For a dock pack that died of sulfation, reconditioning can be enough; for an aged counterbalance pack, a rebuild is the honest fix. We tell you which yours needs after the load test.
Do Yale stand-up reach trucks use the same battery as the sit-downs?
No — stand-up and reach models typically run 24V or 36V in tighter trays, while ERC/ERP sit-downs run 36V or 48V in larger, heavier packs. Same brand, different battery problem: always match each truck’s own plate.
